The Debitoor invoicing program is a convenient solution for invoicing and accounting for freelancers, startups and small business owners.
Through the cooperation with GetMyInvoices, you can now easily manage invoices from various portals and import them directly into Debitoor. We spoke to Hannah Lindstedt from Debitoor. At Debitoor she is responsible for the German-speaking market and international partnerships.
Hannah, how did you come to Debitoor? Has accounting always been an interesting topic for you?
I have now been working for Debitoor for over three years and find it incredibly exciting. Thanks to digitalization and cloud services, there are a lot of new possibilities in the area of accounting. If someone had told me in the past that I would one day work for an accounting program, I probably wouldn’t have thought it possible. The topic always sounds terrible at first and I came to it more or less by chance.
That we are now in a position to give really small companies one** cost-effective **Providing software that is constantly evolving and reduces the workload is great fun.
Debitoor is aimed at small businesses, freelancers and founders who want a** simple and understandable solution **for your invoicing and accounting. We are not specialized in any specific industry.
Our customers include hairdressers, taxi drivers, designers, coaches, craftsmen, lawyers…
Where did the idea for Debitoor come from?
Most of the small self-employed people still struggle with accounting with Word and Excel and a lot of manual effort.
Debitoor was originally part of e-conomic, a Danish accounting program, but it was still too complex for small business end users. It made sense to build a solution that really fits the needs of this target group.
How is Debitoor different from other accounting software?
From the beginning, we made it a point to design a really beautiful user interface that is understandable. Last year we also put a lot of energy into developing our mobile apps so that Debitoor on all devices can be used optimally.
Our open API also offers the ability to easily connect Debitoor with many other tools. We see ourselves as** central information hub** for a simple overview of company finances. Ultimately, there are few providers that are so internationally positioned. We now have customers in over 40 countries.
Debitoor celebrated its fifth birthday this year - what do you think has changed the most at Debitoor within these five years?
We operate in an area that is evolving so rapidly that continuous improvement and change are part of our everyday lives. We naturally want to grow as a company and continually improve our software and adapt it to user needs.
As a result, Debitoor’s design, technologies and functionalities have constantly improved and expanded over the last five years. What we are now feeling is that skepticism towards the cloud is becoming less and less in Germany and small companies understand the new possibilities better and are more open to them. Other markets like Denmark or the UK are already further ahead.
What were the biggest challenges for Debitoor?
I think the biggest challenge on the product side was the requirement to offer more and more functions at the same time and still remain simple and intuitively understandable.
So far we’ve managed to do this very well, but it’s becoming more and more of a challenge as time goes on. We also had to completely change our pricing model two years ago because we initially offered a freemium model.
What else would you like to achieve with Debitoor?
We believe it will be much easier to start and run a business in the future. Our vision is that in the future anyone with a good business idea can easily become self-employed.
Today we are focusing on eliminating bookkeeping and invoicing as a barrier to entry into self-employment. In the future, we may also address other issues that prevent people from starting and running successful businesses.
If you could dream: what else would you like to automate/digitize?
We want to automate all accounting processes. We can pull all data from all relevant systems into Debitoor via our open interface.
Regardless of whether it is a web shop, cash register system, bank data, payment provider, the tax advisor’s program, customer management or supplier management - all data should come together in Debitoor and be automatically linked to one another so that accounting no longer requires manual work steps in the future.
